Pak Army launches operation Khyber-IV in Rajgal Valley Khyber Agency
ISLAMABAD, 1: Pakistan Army has launched an operation called Khyber-IV against militants in Rajgal Valley area of Khyber Agency, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor announced on Sunday.
While addressing a media conference in Islamabad, DG ISPR said hideouts of all militants would be targeted during the operation Khyber-IV. He said the operation has been launched to wipe out militants and consolidate gains made in other military operations to further enhance the security of Pakistan’s borders. He said that the operation aims to secure the international border with Afghanistan by preventing Daesh and other local militants on the Afghan side of the border from infiltration. “Daesh’s influence is growing on another side of the border,” he added.
DG ISPR said the operation would not be easy in the area being mountainous and having tough terrain. He said that up to 500 families have already migrated from the valley due to deteriorated law and order situation. “Around 500 families had been living in this area, which is currently staying in safer places as Temporarily Displaced Persons,” he added. “The operation will continue till complete hold on Khyber Agency,” he asserted. He elaborated that operation Khyber-IV I part of operation Radd-ul-Fasad across the country. He said one division troops with the support of Pakistan Air Force are taking part in the operation.
Maj Gen Ghafoor also referred to the ongoing phase-1 of the fencing the Afghan border, which is being done in collaboration with Afghanistan. He said on average there would be a fort or check post after every 1.5 kilometres.
