Pakistan fully supports peace initiatives in Afghanistan: Foreign Office
PESHAWAR: Pakistan on Thursday said it is committed to peace and security in Afghanistan and fully supports Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s peace initiatives.
The Foreign Office spokesman Dr Muhammad Faisal said at a weekly briefing in Islamabad that there is no military solution to decades’ long Afghan conflict. He said Pakistan hopes that Taliban would grab opportunity of unconditional peace talks with Afghan government.
He said United States Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Ambassador Alice G Wells had a useful visit to Pakistan in which detailed discussions were also held on the situation in Afghanistan. He said the Pakistan and US delegates shared the recent developments in the wake of ceasefire on Eidul Fitr and President Ghani’s offer of unconditional peace talks with Taliban.
He said Pakistan raised the issues of concern particularly border management, return of Afghan refugees and presence of anti-Pakistan sanctuaries on other side of the border. He reiterated Pakistan’s support to peace and reconciliation efforts of Afghanistan as well as other stakeholders. He said Pakistan condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
